Spring into Energy: Awaken Your Body & Mind with Yoga

As the days grow longer and ever more light-filled, and the plump green buds are unfurling into soft diaphanous leaves, nature reminds us it’s time to embrace the new. Spring is all about renewal—physically, mentally, and energetically. In yoga, this season invites us to stretch, twist, and awaken from the inside out.
**Move with the Season**
Spring supports the liver and gallbladder—our body’s natural detox duo—so think *twists, side stretches, and flowing sequences*. Postures like Triangle, Revolved Side Angle, and Sage Pose help wring out toxins and refresh your energy. Add gentle twists after each pose to stimulate digestion and strengthen your core—maybe even reclaim your waistline after winter!
Want to boost your practice further? Get outside early in the day, under trees if you can—trees release oxygen-rich air that's especially nourishing for the liver. Or add a splash of fun with dancing, hula hooping, or even a spontaneous burst of laughter. Yes—laughing is excellent for spring energy!
**A Breath of Fresh Mind**
Spring is the perfect time to “spring clean” not just your home, but your mind too. Meditation helps clear mental clutter, just as tidying your space clears your surroundings. Just 10 minutes a day of quiet breathing, pausing slightly after each inhale and longer after each exhale, can calm the nervous system and reduce stress. Try it for a week and notice the shift.
Feeling stuck? Try this: place one hand on your forehead, the other at the back of your head. Ask yourself, “How can I see this differently?” You might be surprised by the clarity that follows.
**Eat the Season**
Eat fresh, green, and vibrant. Think baby spinach, sprouting pulses, cleansing soups, and water-rich foods. Even a one-day detox can help shift stagnant energy and embrace the lightness of spring. The taste of Spring is sour, so a squeeze of lemon into hot water first thing or over green leafy vegetables with evoo and salt are fabulous and delicious ways to tantalise the taste buds AND eat healthy. For those of you coming on retreat with me in May, we take lemon to the next level with lemon, ginger and turmeric shots with spicy black pepper and cayenne!
**Make Space to Grow**
Spring is a season of potential. It’s the perfect time to set goals, try something new, and re-energise your yoga practice. Whether you’re flowing through Warrior II or lying in a gentle twist on your mat, let your movement mirror the season: fresh, flowing, and full of life.
